Concerned About
the Cost of Dental Implants?
While dental implants themselves are often not covered by insurance, many restorative procedures and preparatory treatments, such as extractions or bone grafting, may be partially or fully covered. At Vitacare Dental Centre in Coquitlam, we work with a variety of major dental insurance plans to help you make your implant treatment more affordable. Our compassionate team will collaborate with your insurance provider to ensure you receive the maximum benefits for your care.

A Detailed View of Implant Treatment
Dental implants are placed directly into the jaw. Over the course of three to six months, the implants fuse with the jaw in a process called osseointegration. Once this fusion is complete, the implants have the same stability as natural tooth roots and can provide excellent support for crowns, bridges, or dentures.
“Very happy.”

Preparing for Implant Surgery
Restorative Care
Some patients may first require treatment to strengthen the jaw and minimize the risk of complications. A bone grafting or sinus lift procedure will add several months to your treatment timeline, but might be a necessary first step toward experiencing all the benefits of dental implants.
Discuss Medications With Your Doctor
Certain medications can increase your risk of bleeding and bruising, while others can interact with drugs you might be prescribed after the dental implant process. You will discuss all medications, vitamins, and supplements you take with the team with your dentist.
Practice Healthy Lifestyle Habits
It's important to establish habits that can protect your implants in the long term. Practicing good oral hygiene habits and staying on top of routine dental visits are key to ensuring your implants and replacement teeth are in the best shape possible for years to come. If you smoke, you need to take this opportunity to drop the habit permanently.

The Dental Implants Treatment Timeline
Our dentists perform every step of treatment at our office. In most cases, you can receive complete treatment from us with no need for a referral.
What to Expect During Your Recovery
Like any dental surgery, patients can expect to experience some discomfort and swelling after receiving dental implants. Most patients are able to alleviate these side effects with over-the-counter anti-inflammatories. You will receive detailed post-operative instructions. In general, you should plan to:
Eat Soft Foods
We recommend a soft-food diet, such as smoothies, soups, yogurt, and scrambled eggs, after surgery. This allows the treatment area to heal properly. Patients should avoid very hot food or drinks and eat meals that can be easily chewed.
Cleaning
Food particles can easily become trapped in the gums during the healing period. Patients should rinse their mouths thoroughly after every meal. Gently brush around the treatment site with a soft-bristled toothbrush at least twice a day.
Rest
Plan to rest at home for one to three days after the procedure. Patients can usually return to work after the initial rest period, but should avoid strenuous activity until cleared by the dentist. We'll monitor your progress during follow-up visits.
Implants Have a Track Record of Success
Want to Explore Alternatives?
Traditional dental implants can be a life-changing solution for the right candidates, but they are not right for everyone. Depending on your oral health needs, budget, and personal preferences, one of these solutions may be the right fit for you:
Dental Bridges
A traditional dental bridge consists of one or more replacement teeth supported on either side by dental crowns. If you need to replace one or more teeth but cannot safely undergo dental implant surgery, a traditional bridge may be the best solution for your needs.
Traditional Dentures
Traditional dentures are removable prosthetics designed to replace most or all missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw. They rest on the gums and are reinforced with a mild adhesive.
All-on-4 Dental Implants
All-on-4 is a full-arch tooth replacement solution that uses just four implants to support a complete denture. This technique offers improved stability, bone preservation, and a more natural feel compared to traditional dentures.
FAQ About Dental Implants
Q. Is dental implant placement painful?
A. No. Your dentist will thoroughly numb the area before your treatment begins. You may feel a little pressure, but you should not feel pain during dental implant placement. If at any point you feel discomfort, please let your dental team know so we can make adjustments to ensure you are completely comfortable during your procedure.
Q. I have been told I do not qualify for dental implants. Can you still help?
A. If you do not initially qualify for dental implants due to issues relating to your oral health, we can provide comprehensive dentistry at our Coquitlam office to become a candidate. During your initial consultation, your dentist will perform a complete evaluation to determine if you can become a candidate by undergoing preliminary treatments.
Q. How do I care for dental implants?
A. One of the many benefits of dental implants is that you treat them just as you would natural teeth. Be sure to brush and floss at least twice a day with a soft-bristled brush and nonabrasive toothpaste. Do not use your teeth to open packages or bite your nails.
Q. How long do dental implants last?
A. Dental implants are made of durable titanium and are designed to last a lifetime. However, your dental crown, bridge, or denture will wear over time with use and will eventually need to be replaced. With proper dental care and maintenance, your restoration can last for 15 years or more. Be sure to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing twice a day. Don't forget regular exams and cleanings at our Coquitlam dentistry practice.
Q. How much do implants cost?
A. The cost of dental implants varies widely depending on your specific treatment plan. A patient receiving a single implant-supported crown without any preparatory procedures can expect to pay much less than a patient receiving bone grafting and an implant-supported denture. Your dentist will be able to provide a detailed treatment estimate once they have reviewed your needs during a consultation.
