Veneers Cost

When it comes to enhancing the appearance of your smile, few cosmetic treatments are as popular as porcelain veneers. Veneers cost is often a primary concern for patients considering this procedure at our Coquitlam, BC, practice.

The cost of porcelain veneers can vary depending on several factors...

Factors That Affect Veneers Cost

Number of Veneers

The number of teeth requiring treatment will have a direct impact on veneers cost. Patients who only need one veneer will pay less overall. However, time and laboratory fees must be considered as well. Those who require multiple veneers will likely pay less per unit, but will pay more for the overall procedure.

Lab and Materials

At Vitacare Dental Centre, we work with high-quality labs. Our expert ceramists use the most aesthetic porcelain available while still maintaining the strength and durability necessary for long-lasting results. We commonly utilize e.max, a specific type of ceramic, due to its impressive durability and natural appearance.

Additional Procedures

In some cases, porcelain veneers are placed as part of a comprehensive smile makeover. This customized plan combines two or more cosmetic procedures to achieve more dramatic results. If you decide to undergo teeth whitening or Invisalign® prior to porcelain veneer placement, then it will increase your total cost.

Geographical Location

It is not uncommon for the cost of veneers to vary depending on which part of the country you live in. For example, porcelain veneers and other cosmetic services generally cost more in big cities and metropolitan areas, while practices in rural areas typically charge less.

Experience of the Dentist

The cost of porcelain veneers usually fluctuates depending on the skill and knowledge of the dentist. While it may be tempting to choose a dentist who offers the lowest cost, patients should consider the quality of care. Significantly lower costs could indicate that the dentist placing the veneers does not have as much experience.

Sedation Options

At our dental office in Coquitlam, BC, Drs. Wong and Lee offer sedation for individuals with anxiety, or for those who simply want to be more comfortable during their procedure. These options can be discussed during a consultation with your doctor. If you opt for sedation, it can affect your total veneers cost.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain shells fused to the front of the tooth to mask imperfections.

Paying for Your Veneers

A man at a dental exam

Insurance and Veneers

Porcelain veneers are considered purely cosmetic in nature. For this reason, they are generally not covered by dental insurance plans. In some rare instances, insurance may cover services that are medically-necessary. For example, if a patient sustains damage after being in a car accident, the treatment could be considered restorative and cosmetic. In most cases, however, veneer placement is considered elective.

How We Save You Time and Money

We understand that life is busy. Many individuals put off dentistry appointments or cosmetic dentistry because they do not have time for multiple office visits. At our practice, we streamline the process with a comprehensive assessment. During this appointment, we explore the pros and cons of treatment and collaborate with you to determine the most efficient ways to meet your goals. We offer a wide range of services in house to cut down on treatment times.

Further, we also believe in clear, transparent communication. We routinely use clinical photos, mock wax-ups, and 3-D modeling so people can visualize the veneer process and their end results. This helps individuals make well-informed decisions regarding their overall oral health.

Cost of Veneers vs. Other Cosmetic Procedures

Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry option, but we offer several alternatives at our Coquitlam practice that can deliver similar results. Here, we briefly explore these options, as well as their approximate fees.

Dental Bonding

This cosmetic dentistry service is less invasive than porcelain veneers because it doesn't require the removal of enamel. Due to the nature of bonding, it is typically more affordable than dental veneers. That is why many individuals choose this option instead. Keep in mind, however, that bonding must be re-done every five to seven years on average to maintain optimal results.

Teeth Whitening

If you want to brighten the teeth, then whitening could be a viable alternative. Whitening can treat natural teeth that have extrinsic stains (caused by dark-colored foods and beverages). Intrinsic stains, which can be caused by trauma, genetics, or certain medications, can be concealed with veneers or other composite or porcelain restorations. Whitening is much more affordable than veneers, but touch-ups are required to maintain results.

Dental Crowns

Another option is a crown, which may be recommended if a tooth is broken, decayed, or damaged. While a veneer covers only the front surface of a tooth, a crown fits over the entire structure for added strength and reinforcement. As a result, oral health is preserved. Fees for both are comparable, but will ultimately depend on your unique dentistry needs.

Invisalign

Those considering veneers to improve the appearance of crooked teeth could also benefit from Invisalign. This orthodontic option actually moves the teeth, while veneers only cover them. Dental veneers can be placed in a couple of office visits, while Invisalign takes up to 24 months. Overall fees may be comparable, depending on how many veneers you need to have placed. Our dentistry team can discuss your options in detail during a consultation.

What to Expect During Porcelain Veneer Placement

Initial Consultation

If you are interested in veneers, the first step is to undergo an oral exam with one of our Coquitlam dentists. During this consultation, we will assess your teeth, gums, jaw, and other oral structures to ensure you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers. This is an excellent time to discuss your cosmetic goals and ask any questions you may have.

Prepping the Teeth

Before veneers can be placed, your dentist must remove small amounts of enamel from each affected tooth. This prepares the surfaces so that your new porcelain veneers will stay firmly in place. On average, about one-half millimeter of enamel is removed, though this may vary depending on the type of veneers you choose.

Dental Impressions

After each tooth has been prepared, your dentist takes impressions. The impressions are used to create dental models, which are sent to a lab for the fabrication of your veneers. In the meantime, your dentist may place temporary veneers to protect your teeth.

Veneer Fabrication

When the lab receives your impressions and models, a skilled ceramist will begin creating your veneers out of a solid block of porcelain so the end results look like your natural teeth. The hand-crafted process and use of quality porcelain materials ensures that your new veneers reflect light in a similar fashion as natural tooth enamel.

Final Placement

Once your veneers are complete, the lab ships them back to our Coquitlam office. During a second appointment, your dentist assesses the fit, shape, and color to ensure they will blend in with your smile. Finally, your new veneers are bonded into place using durable cement. The result is a bright, beautiful smile that can last for years to come.

I decided to switch to Vita Care Dental Centre and I am so glad I did! I have never had such a calm, comfortable, informative, transparent experience at a dental clinic in my past 29 years... Dr. Wong was very transparent with his work and took the time to explain and answer all my questions (and I had a lot of them) to make me feel that I was in control of my health.
